Sam Walker is on course to return from ankle surgery when the Sydney Roosters face the Dolphins in next Friday's preliminary final at Suncorp Stadium.
Walker underwent the operation less than a month ago, but coach Trent Robinson expects medical assessments on Monday or Tuesday to confirm his availability.
"I'm pretty confident with with what I've seen. He's had really good progression but we'll get a good gauge on Monday or Tuesday," Robinson said.
The Roosters earned the opportunity with a 46-10 victory over Cronulla at Allianz Stadium, moving within one win of their first NRL grand final appearance in seven years.
Daly Cherry-Evans was placed on report for tripping Teig Wilton and may be the only other concern before the Dolphins clash.
Cronulla's challenge deteriorated quickly after Nicho Hynes failed his head injury assessment and Mawene Hiroti suffered a knee injury after hitting the advertising boards.
Braydon Trindall helped the Sharks recover from an early 12-0 deficit, creating tries for Sione Katoa and Ronaldo Mulitalo.
However, Cherry-Evans restored an 18-10 halftime advantage before Cronulla conceded two seven-tackle sets and lost control.
Mark Nawaqanitawase then produced a behind-the-back offload in a move involving five Roosters players, allowing Connor Watson to score.
"What possibly could have went wrong, went wrong and it was like (we played with) a hang on energy for the rest of the game," Cronulla coach Craig Fitzgibbon said.
Nawaqanitawase later scored twice, while James Tedesco and Rob Toia also crossed.
Hugo Savala kicked seven from eight conversions and appears most likely to make way if Walker returns.
