Sydney Roosters and Walker reach impasse

BREAKING: Roosters’ shock backflip with $6m Walker bombshell to blow up Nov 1

Sam Walker remains contracted to the Sydney Roosters for the 2027 season, despite the club ending talks over an extension.

The Roosters have withdrawn their offer after months of negotiations failed to produce agreement on terms.

In a statement, the club said: "The club remains focused on maintaining a Premiership-winning roster with all recruitment and retention decisions made to support the strength, balance and long-term success of the playing squad."

Walker can speak with NRL rivals from Sunday and, unless either side changes course, will become a free agent this weekend.

The 24-year-old, currently in camp with the Kangaroos, had reportedly asked his management to secure a deal before November 1.

The Roosters reportedly raised their offer to $5.2 million over four years, with ratchet clauses that could take the total close to $6 million.

Walker has been linked with PNG, as has Canberra Raiders forward Hudson Young, whose club also withdrew its extension offer on Monday.

Attention now turns to whether the Chiefs can sign Walker after the Raiders and Roosters failed to reach agreements with their respective players.
