Canberra Raiders eye Liam Martin

SEVEN potential landing spots for Liam Martin

Second-row values are climbing: Jacob Preston and Samuela Fainu secured improved renewals, while Penrith's off-contract Liam Martin wants a seven-figure deal.

Canberra may now pursue Martin after withdrawing its offer to Hudson Young, who held out with his management until November 1.

The Raiders announced the withdrawal Monday, citing negotiations dating to June and a need for an answer before October ended so they could plan ahead.

"The offer that was made was the largest in club history," the Raiders said.

The club said it had hoped to keep Young for his career and considered him a potential future leader.

Young has played more than 150 games for Canberra since his 2019 debut and remains contracted through 2027.

Favoured to join the Chiefs, he has not toured their Port Moresby facilities; the club is willing to pay about $900,000, well below market value.

Australian clubs could pursue Young, who is almost certain to play elsewhere in 2028, potentially sparking a bidding war.
