Support Grows for Coach Payten's Extension

Dearden Supports Payten's Future with the Cowboys

Tom Dearden, co-captain of the North Queensland Cowboys, has expressed his confidence in Todd Payten's potential to re-sign with the club after a strong recent performance that has put the Cowboys in the Top 8.

Initially, Payten faced criticism when the season began, as the team struggled during the first two weeks. However, he has since managed to revitalize the players, guiding them to a commendable record of eight wins and four losses.

Currently, Payten lacks a contract for the upcoming year and is in discussions with club officials regarding the possibility of an extension.

In an interview on Channel 7's Agenda Setters: Rugby League, Dearden fully supported the notion of Payten continuing with the team and steering them towards a championship in Townsville.

"Yeah, I certainly do," Dearden stated when asked if he wants Payten to receive an extension.

"Toddy was the coach that brought me up here to the club and I thought the faith and the belief that he showed in me at the start of my journey coming up here and yeah he's been a big influence on my career and my journey in the NRL."

"I think he's a great coach and I know over the years and we've had a few inconsistent performances but I just think he's got so much belief and passion for the club and about this group."

"I'm in full support of him extending his time up here at the Cowboys."

Under Payten's leadership, promising talents like Jaxon Purdue, Tom Chester, and Helium Luki have emerged, showcasing their exceptional potential while performing at a high level.
