Staggs' Penalty Hampers Broncos Comeback

‘Brain explosion’: ‘Trouble’ looming for Broncos as star’s ‘unnecessary’ moment lands him in hot water

Kotoni Staggs of the Broncos experienced a challenging moment during his team's defeat against the Roosters, resulting in controversy after he elbowed Hugo Savala in the back of the head.

This incident occurred in the 70th minute while Brisbane was behind 30-24, and it led to Staggs being sent off for lifting his elbow and striking his opponent.

Prior to this, the Broncos had scored four consecutive tries, with notable contributions from Reece Walsh, Xavier Willison, Patrick Carrigan, and Jordan Riki.

Referee Adam Gee placed Staggs on report for the incident, and former league star Cooper Cronk expressed strong doubts about the centre's future participation in games.

"It was unnecessary, he is in trouble. He might have to borrow Jared's (Waerea-Hargreaves) car park at the judiciary because he might have to take the acceptance," Cronk remarked.

He further commented on the situation, stating, "That wasn't needed, there was no need for him to fall down with the elbow on the back of a player's head. I dare say he will be in some trouble."

This action has now raised concerns regarding potential disciplinary measures for Staggs and the impact on the Broncos moving forward.
