Samoa's Hall makes instant impact

Samoa celebrate World Cup try.

Fetu Samoa ended an 18-year wait for a Women's Rugby League World Cup win with a record 76-0 defeat of Wales.

The result was the team's biggest-ever victory and a 116-point turnaround after its 40-0 loss to Australia on October 16.

Player of the match Amber Hall made a major impact after coming on midway through the first half.

The Sydney Roosters NRLW premiership-winning prop scored within five minutes, then drove through Welsh hooker Carys Marsh shortly before halftime.

That charge helped create Ivana Lolesio's try and gave Samoa a 40-0 lead at the break.

Hall later set up another try, capping a performance that showcased Samoa's physical dominance.

Laikha Clarke opened the scoring, and debutant Tyra Ekepati crossed twice during a rapid first-half burst.

Destiny Mino-Sinapati and Mercedez Taulelei-Siala each scored twice, while Evania Isa'ako, Monica Tagoai and Freedom Crichton Ropati also crossed.

Ekepati completed her hat-trick late in the match, before lock Tavarna Papalii scored the final try.

Wales had lost 70-6 in its first match. The Jillaroos are scheduled to face Wales next weekend.
