England's defeat ended Jodie Cunningham's international career, while Samoa advanced to the women's Rugby League World Cup semi-finals for the first time.

"This is really special and it's been an honour to captain this side," the retiring England captain said.

"It's been an honour to play in four World Cups. I've lived my dream a million times over and just to everyone who's made that possible, I'm just so grateful.

"But to them girls (out there) they gave everything out there today. It didn't stick at times but we were in it but Samoa were fantastic and wish them all the best in the next round."

At Commbank Stadium on Friday night, Fetu Samoa beat England 24-6, scoring five tries to one.

Freedom Crichton Ropati claimed a first-half hat-trick, with Mercedez Taulelei-Siala and replacement Fanua Rimoni also crossing before the break.

Samoan captain Evania Isaako said, "It feels pretty cool, to be honest," after the win.

"I'm just so proud of all the girls. They really showed up for one another and they just kept turning up."

Second in Pool A behind unbeaten Australia, Samoa will meet three-time champions New Zealand next week for a place in the final.

The team is monitoring Crichton Ropati's ankle after she received treatment late in the match.

England's tournament ended after a 78-0 loss to Australia, following a 70-6 win over Wales.

Australia, pursuing a fourth consecutive title, plays Wales in Sydney on Sunday after beating Samoa 40-0 and England 76-0.
