Ryles Questions Bunker Technology as Finals Loom

Jason Ryles

Jason Ryles has expressed his frustration towards the NRL's bunker following Parramatta's defeat to the Dolphins, urging for enhancements before a grand final is affected.

In their 34-16 loss on Friday in Brisbane, Ryles acknowledged that his team fell short against a Dolphins side chasing finals glory.

However, he took issue with the league's review technology, particularly a decision to reverse the no-try ruling on Dolphins' winger Jamayne Isaako.

Initially, it appeared that Eels defender Sean Russell had managed to dislodge the ball as Isaako attempted to ground it.

Yet, officials overturned the no-try ruling, concluding there was sufficient evidence that Isaako retained possession until he touched the ball down.

Ryles, however, disagreed with that interpretation.

"I don't go anywhere near the refs; they have a tough job, but one thing I will say is that the bunker's got more technology than they had getting to the moon and they still stuff it up," he stated.

"I don't have anything good to say about it, I'll leave it at that."

Ryles, who admitted to finding the decision "very" perplexing, urged for accuracy.

"Just get it right," he said.

"It went up no try. And how they turned it over ... did it have an influence on the game? No, it didn't, but that's going to decide a grand final. Let's be honest."

He didn't contest Isaako's second try in the match.

Currently sitting in 13th place and out of finals contention, Ryles remarked that his young squad has gained valuable experience against a team poised to finish in the top four.

"Fight and effort only gets you so far and we hung in for a long period," he mentioned.

"They're a well put together, physical, mature footy team and we've got a heap of kids out there at the moment learning their trade."
