Roy Asotasi, a former NRL player and premiership winner, has landed his first head coaching position for the upcoming 2026 season.
Asotasi, who last played in the NRL in 2013, has been appointed as the head coach of the Balmain Tigers' Under-19s SG Ball Cup team for next season, with the goal of guiding them toward success.
His background includes coaching stints with the Coogee Dolphins and involvement in the Bulldogs' pathways system, bringing valuable experience to the franchise as he aims to mentor emerging talent in the junior representative ranks.
"We're really pleased to have secured the services of some talented young coaches, but more importantly people who embody the values of the club," stated Bronson Harrison, Head of Pathways at the Wests Tigers.
During his playing career, Asotasi participated in 217 NRL matches and celebrated a Grand Final victory in 2004 with the Bulldogs against the Sydney Roosters.
In addition to his club success, Asotasi played for the Warrington Wolves and was a dual international, representing New Zealand from 2004 to 2009 and Samoa in 2013. He captained both teams throughout his international career.
"The quality and strength of the Pathway both next year and beyond is heavily influenced by the coaching and mentorship the players are exposed to; we're very happy with the variety of coaches who will be working across the programs in 2026," Harrison added.
