Roosters Face Retention Challenges Ahead of Deadline

The Sydney Roosters are facing a significant retention challenge as the November 1 deadline approaches, with both Rugby 360 and rugby union presenting potential threats to their key players.

With six players' contracts expiring at the end of the month, the Roosters must manage salary cap constraints while contending with rival offers and potential switches to other codes, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Mark Nawaqanitawase has already announced that 2025 will mark his last year in the NRL as he plans to return to rugby and represent the Wallabies in the next World Cup.

However, he might not be the only player making such a transition.

Angus Crichton, who has experience in rugby, is considering a move to union once his contract concludes in 2026. Additionally, emerging talents Siua Wong and Blake Steep will be eligible to negotiate with other clubs starting November 1.

Both Wong and Steep have drawn interest from Rugby Australia and overseas teams, but the Roosters remain optimistic about retaining both players, viewing them as key components for the franchise's future.

The club is also preparing to make significant decisions regarding veterans James Tedesco and Daniel Tupou, whose contracts expire at the end of 2026.
