Ricky Stuart Discusses Coby Black's Early Arrival

The Canberra Raiders are potentially set to bring Coby Black to their team a year sooner than initially planned.

Originally, Black was not expected to join the Raiders until 2027, but recent developments have changed that outlook.

Current discussions between the Raiders and Broncos are exploring the possibility of an earlier transfer.

From the Broncos' perspective, Black isn't part of their long-term future, especially with Jonah Pezet set to join in 2027. However, they may still need Black in the short term due to Adam Reynolds' ongoing fitness issues and Ben Hunt nearing the end of his career.

Hunt is also expected to take on the dummy half role at full capacity, which could complicate any changes the club might consider.

On the other hand, the Raiders are eager to see Black arrive a year early. He would compete with Ethan Sanders to take over the halfback position from Jamal Fogarty, who is moving to the Manly Sea Eagles for the 2026 season.

Ricky Stuart, who is not directly involved in the negotiations, confirmed on SEN Radio that Black is keen on making the transition for 2026 and highlighted that it would be beneficial for the club no matter the outcome.
