Leeds Rhinos and Rohan Smith have decided to part ways, leaving the head coaching position vacant just before their showdown with the Leigh Leopards on Friday.
Smith, who took the reins in April last year, led the Rhinos to the Super League Grand Final in his first season at the helm, but unfortunately, the team failed to make the playoffs last year and have struggled this season, sitting in seventh place after 14 matches.
After suffering a disappointing 18-10 loss to Hull FC last weekend, Smith made the tough decision to step down as head coach.
The Rhinos find themselves four points adrift of the playoff spots and will need to regroup quickly before facing off against Leigh on Friday night.
The match against Leigh will hold special significance as it will be the first home game for the Rhinos since the passing of the legendary Rob Burrow at the age of 41.
It will be a chance for the team to honor his memory and rally together as they look to turn their season around.
