Raiders' Papalii to Exit After Season

Ricky Stuart Discusses Josh Papalii's Future with the Raiders

Josh Papalii, the prop for the Canberra Raiders, is entering his final season with the club, as confirmed by coach Ricky Stuart.

Previously, speculations suggested that 2025 would mark the end of Papalii's tenure in Raiders' colors.

Over a year ago, he acknowledged that continuing with the club into 2026 would pose a significant challenge. However, his remarkable performance attracted interest from other NRL teams and overseas clubs in England.

His impressive play led to a surprise recall by Billy Slater for a crucial final game in the Origin series, where Queensland managed a stunning comeback after losing the initial match at home.

Papalii's leadership and skill prompted the Raiders to offer him another contract extension just as they were preparing to part ways with Trey Mooney, who is heading to the Newcastle Knights.

Nonetheless, the upcoming contract for 2026 will be his last with the Raiders.

"No, he won't be," coach Ricky Stuart stated according to AAP.

"You don't want to lose the investment we put into players like Josh … We have a lot of young Polynesian boys in the club as well, and I know they look up to Papa as though he's their god."

"He's seen as that leader and guy who's done it on the field, not through talk, but through action."
