The Canberra Raiders have officially announced that forward Joe Roddy will have his contract extended for an additional three years, securing his place at the club through to the end of the 2030 season.
Despite limited appearances in the NRL, Roddy has demonstrated significant potential to become a standout forward in the capital, evident from his debut last year where he scored two tries coming off the bench.
With his existing contract set to conclude at the end of 2027, the Raiders acted swiftly to prevent him from entering the market in November, ensuring his long-term commitment to the club.
Roddy's junior career began in Tumut, a region within the Raiders' junior pathways, illustrating the effectiveness of their development system.
Expressing his excitement about the contract extension, Roddy noted his desire to remain a one-club player.
"It's really cool to re-sign and to get some clarity around my future. Obviously, I want to stay at this place. It's like another home to me and, ever since I first came over to Canberra, I've loved it," Roddy stated in a Raiders announcement.
"I've always said that if I could, I'd want to be a one-club player and, obviously, this is a small step towards doing that. But I'm really excited to be extended until 2030."
Roddy also shared his hopes of inspiring younger fans from his hometown by showing them that an NRL career is achievable.
"Tumut is only two hours away from Canberra, so to go home and see the young kids and give them someone to look up to and be a role model for them is really special. To be able to make it from a small country town gives them belief too."
