The South Sydney Rabbitohs have secured the signing of promising brothers William and Maxwell Afualo on one-year contracts. The talented young players, previously with the Bulldogs, have chosen to advance their development within the Rabbitohs organization, guided by the renowned coach Wayne Bennett.
While both players had offers to stay at Canterbury, William's pathway at Belmore was not expected to begin until 2027. Recognizing an immediate opportunity at South Sydney, the brothers decided to pursue their careers together at Redfern.
William will train with the Rabbitohs' Top 30 squad throughout the preseason, aiming for a full-time development role, with ongoing discussions about his future. Meanwhile, Maxwell will join the South Sydney pathways program, focusing on physical growth and continuing his development as a centre.
Why South Sydney appealed
The Rabbitohs presented a comprehensive and personalized plan for both players, showcasing a deep understanding of their strengths, characters, and long-term potential.
The opportunity to learn within a Wayne Bennett system was a significant incentive. "From the first conversation we felt seen," William remarked. "Souths studied my game and explained exactly how they want to develop me. I want to turn potential into performance. I want to earn respect."
