The ongoing rivalry between the South Sydney Rabbitohs and their arch-rivals, the Sydney Roosters, has intensified with the Rabbitohs signing a former Under-17s Harold Matthew Cup captain from the Roosters.

In addition to their recent signings of centre Dean Tauaa and front-rower Phillip Lavakeiaho, the Rabbitohs have secured another significant junior talent as they look towards the future.

A dual-code athlete, who currently attends Waverly College and is in his final year of schooling, has been a consistent player on the school's rugby union team.

Primarily featuring in the back-row for the rugby league, McKenna joined the Roosters' pathways system in 2020, being named to their Under-13s development squad. He went on to compete for two years in the Under-17s Harold Matthews Cup in 2023 and 2024.

Additionally, he earned a spot in the 2024 Under 18s NSW CIS squad during the ASSRL National Championships. Recognized for his leadership qualities, McKenna was appointed captain of his team in 2024, playing alongside notable players like Baxter Warner, Toby Rodwell, Lachlan Metcalfe, and Jeziah Papa.
