The South Sydney Rabbitohs are experiencing yet another setback in what has been described as a "season from hell," as Latrell Mitchell is confirmed to miss Saturday's match against the Parramatta Eels.
After just returning last week in the centres against the Gold Coast Titans following a period on the sidelines due to injury, Mitchell has now encountered a pinched nerve in his back.
Wayne Bennett, the Rabbitohs' coach, announced this latest development at the conclusion of the club's captain's run in Maroubra on Friday morning. Unfortunately, this absence will mark what would have been only Mitchell's 12th game of the season.
In light of Mitchell's injury, sources indicate that Bayleigh Bentley-Hape will step into the centres. This shift may allow Tyrone Munro, who was designated as the 18th man earlier in the week, to take on a position on the wing for the upcoming game.
As the Rabbitohs find themselves struggling near the bottom of the standings, there is hope that Cody Walker may be able to make a return to the lineup.
