In a recent statement, Matt Peet, coach of the Wigan Warriors, has called for Super League to embrace its own strengths and take more pride in itself, rather than constantly comparing itself to the NRL.

Peet's comments come in the wake of the Warriors' victory in the World Club Challenge, where Super League champions defeated the NRL premiers, Penrith Panthers, in a thrilling matchup.

This victory marks back-to-back triumphs for English clubs, a feat that hasn't been achieved since 2008.

While some argue that the gap between the NRL and Super League is closing, Peet believes that it is not about comparison, but rather about recognizing and appreciating the unique qualities of Super League.

He expressed his pride in being part of rugby league in the north-west of England and urged the league to shy away from seeking validation from the NRL.

Peet's sentiments were echoed by Penrith coach, Ivan Cleary, who acknowledged the strength of the top teams in Super League while highlighting the depth as an area where Super League could improve.

Despite being a relatively new coach, Peet has demonstrated his success by securing every domestic trophy in his tenure at Wigan.
