The Australian Rugby League Commission owns the Perth Bears franchise, and its chairman, Peter V'landys, appointed Anthony De Ceglie.
De Ceglie has now stepped down as the club's chief executive, ahead of the Bears joining the competition in 2027.
The club announced his departure in a press release on Friday evening.
Before taking the role, De Ceglie was Seven West Media's director of news and current affairs and editor-in-chief of The West Australian.
His tenure had been fraught, with several well-connected sources saying in recent months that he lacked board support.
Those sources also considered his position unsustainable in the long term.
