Dr.

George Peponis OAM; MBBS is a Bulldogs Rugby League legend, having played 132 games over a nine-year career.

He hails from Peloponesse, Greece and migrated to Australia with his family as an infant.

Throughout his career, he became one of the finest rugby league players in the nation and was recognized for his significant contributions to the game with the Order of Australia Medal.

Peponis began his playing career in 1972, joining Canterbury as a hooker.

The following year, he became a regular member of the Under 23s team and even featured in the Preliminary Final against Balmain.

In 1974, he made his first-grade debut against South Sydney, filling in for the injured Barry Phyllis.

His solid performance earned him a permanent spot in the first-grade team and he went on to play in the finals series.

Unfortunately, Peponis suffered a broken leg in 1975, which kept him out for most of the season.

However, he made a triumphant return in time to play in the reserve grade Preliminary Semi-Final against Cronulla.

By 1976, he had reclaimed his position as the team's first-grade hooker and held onto it for the next five consecutive seasons.

It was during this time that Peponis received his first call-up for the NSW side.

He played seven games for NSW from 1976 to 1980, showcasing his skills and contributing to the team's success.

In addition, he represented Australia in eight test matches from 1978 to 1980, captaining the team in five of those matches.

Given his incredible achievements and contributions to the Bulldogs and the sport of rugby league, it is no surprise that the Bulldogs Annual Presentation Night has been named in honor of Dr.

George Peponis.

His legacy as a player and his ongoing dedication to the Bulldogs make him a true legend of the game.
