Penrith have denied giving forward Luron Patea permission to pursue a deal elsewhere, according to reporter Peter Lang of The Western Weekender.
The 21-year-old has made 21 first-grade appearances since debuting for the Panthers in 2024, but has had limited NRL opportunities under Ivan Cleary.
Lang said on Thursday the club also had no interest in Luke Brooks, the 31-year-old Manly halfback with 270 NRL games, as a potential partner for Nathan Cleary in 2027.
"I spoke to the club this morning and they confirmed to me that they are not after Luke Brooks and have made no enquiries about his availability. The club also confirmed Luron Patea has not been given permission to leave at the end of the season and is going nowhere."
Brooks' future at Manly is uncertain after he suffered a season-ending ACL injury in Round 17. The Sea Eagles have Jamal Fogarty established at halfback, while Clayton Faulalo is emerging as a five-eighth option for next year.
Joey Walsh is also viewed as a promising prospect at Manly.
Penrith have been seeking a permanent replacement for Jarome Luai at five-eighth. In 2025, they used Blaize Talagi, Jack Cole and Jack Cogger in the role; Talagi spent most of the year there before losing favour late in the season.
