Papalii Hints at Uncertain Future with Raiders

Josh Papalii Hints at Future with Raiders

As he approaches the end of his contract this season, Canberra Raiders star Josh Papalii has dropped significant hints regarding his future.

Having dedicated 16 seasons to the Raiders as a one-club player, Papalii has consistently shown his commitment but acknowledges that his time may be limited.

During an interview on SEN 1170 Sportsday, the 34-year-old reflected on his enduring passion for the game.

"I think just in general, I just love it," Papalii expressed.

"I love winning. I love grinding with the boys."

Despite battling injuries, he emphasized his dedication, stating, "I've got some shit old knees, but when we're going to war with the group of boys that's here now, I just have to pinpoint… I just absolutely love playing footy."

"I'm going to go until the wheels fall off, but I do believe, in my heart, that this is going to be my last one for the Raiders, and that's just where I left it at the moment."

This revelation follows a previous moment when Papalii hinted at retirement in 2025, only to change course after a resurgence in form secured him a contract extension for 2026, following a remarkable return to State of Origin.

With a remarkable career boasting 330 NRL games, 24 appearances for State of Origin, and the Dally M Prop of the Year award in 2020, Papalii reflects that it's not the accolades or matches he will miss the most.
