The Penrith Panthers have initiated contract discussions with four key players from their extensive off-contract roster.
While the team recently secured a long-term deal for future captain Mitch Kenny, they still face the uncertainty of 11 players whose contracts will expire at the close of the 2027 season from their current Top 30 list.
These players will have the opportunity to enter the open market starting November 1, allowing them to negotiate with competing teams, such as the financially robust PNG Chiefs and the new Perth Bears, who are expected to have substantial funds available.
The current list of Penrith players set to be off-contract at the end of 2027 includes notable names like Paul Alamoti, Nathan Cleary, Sione Fonua, Moses Leota, Liam Martin, Isaiah Papali'i, Luron Patea, Billy Scott, Blaize Talagi, Brian To'o, and Isaah Yeo.
Additionally, Tom Ale, Kalani Going, and Freddy Lussick remain without contracts for 2027.
In a positive update for the Panthers, journalist Christian Nicolussi reported that four players-Yeo, Martin, Alamoti, and Papali'i-have begun discussions regarding contract extensions.
"From what I've been told. They've already started preliminary talks with Isaah Yeo, Liam Martin, Paul Alamoti and Isaiah Papali'i," Nicolussi shared on Fantastic TV.
Among this group, it is reported that Yeo was planning for November 1, while Martin expressed his desire to stay with the Panthers in a recent interview with the Western Weekender.
Given the looming salary cap constraints, Penrith is expected to lose at least one or two players by the end of next year.
