Penrith unsung hero Daine Laurie is actively looking for a new club after being informed that his current contract with the Panthers will not be renewed. Currently tied to a one-year deal for 2025, Laurie had hoped for a fresh contract for the upcoming season.

Following the Panthers' decision not to extend his contract, Laurie now faces the challenge of finding a new team. Since rejoining Penrith in 2024, he has played 21 games but has largely been utilized in the NSW Cup as a backup to State of Origin fullback Dylan Edwards for most of 2025.

The 26-year-old began his career with Penrith in 2020 before moving to the Wests Tigers, where he played 49 matches. After returning to the Panthers in 2024, he now finds himself sidelined.

"He's been told by the club that there won't be a contract for him beyond this year," said Michael Chammas on Channel 9 this week. "He's off-contract at the end of the year and has been told there's nothing there for him."

"It's on the back of Mavrik Geyer being told the same thing from the Panthers. They're looking to replenish some of their depth players in their squad. Most of the players off-contract won't be getting new deals."

Laurie has proven to be a capable fullback, likely starting at many other clubs, but he has had to wait for opportunities behind Edwards at Penrith. When called upon, he has consistently performed well, showcasing his skill and versatility by scoring two tries in the first round against Cronulla in Las Vegas.

Interestingly, the Panthers had shown interest in acquiring Tyrell Sloan from the Dragons, following news that Sloan is free to negotiate with other teams. However, Penrith has since denied any interest in Sloan, who many speculated would replace Laurie as Edwards' backup.
