Melbourne Storm players Cameron Munster and Jahrome Hughes have expressed their concerns regarding the recent rule changes in the NRL, indicating that these modifications are affecting their enjoyment of Rugby League.
This revelation comes during a challenging season for the Melbourne Storm, which is facing its worst start since joining the competition, currently positioned 15th on the ladder with only three wins and seven losses.
Munster did not hold back, stating that the league has unnecessarily changed elements of the game that were already effective.
"I think the rules were perfect two years ago or a year ago," Munster shared on the 167 podcast.
"What's not broken, don't fix it, you know? That's my personal opinion."
Hughes shared similar sentiments, highlighting that the ongoing fluctuations in rule interpretations have made the game increasingly difficult to watch, even from a player's perspective.
"I'm seeing stuff, and I go, 'Why is that a six again?' and then I see something and go, 'Why is that not?'. I get too technical about it in my head," Hughes mentioned.
"For me as a player personally, I can't really watch (Rugby League). I've never been a massive watcher anyway, but now it's just that I make it too technical in my head, and I start picking things out that I shouldn't be, so I can't really enjoy it."
Munster built on Hughes' thoughts, revealing that he too finds it challenging to fully enjoy matches when not actively participating.
