The NRL is poised to broaden its global reach, as ARLC chairman and interim NRL Executive Chairman Peter V'landys has confirmed that a Global Round "definitely" will occur starting in 2028.
The league is considering the potential of hosting several matches overseas as part of this new initiative, with Hong Kong, Japan, and England identified as leading candidates.
As the existing five-year agreement with the Nevada Government approaches its end in 2028, V'landys has emphasized the NRL's commitment to maintaining a presence in the U.S. market beyond this agreement.
"Global Round will definitely be going ahead in 2028, no doubt about that," V'landys shared with the Daily Telegraph.
"We'll still be doing Vegas, and we'll look at two other games (for Global Round).
Interestingly, England is also on the table, with the NRL eager to take advantage of the facilities at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, although final arrangements will hinge on the scheduling of the English Premier League.
"But the two regions definitely on the list are Hong Kong and Japan.
"We'll know in the next few weeks if it's 2027, but we're running out of time because we had to sort out the broadcast deal, which took all the time.
"But now we'll be putting the focus into making this happen.
