According to The Daily Telegraph, under this new rule, when a team concedes points, they can opt to kick off or receive the ball for the next play.
This trial kick-off aims to mitigate point swings from one team dominating possession, enhance unpredictability during games, and minimize one-sided scores.
Justin Rodski, the CEO of Melbourne Storm, discussed the NRL's decision to explore this rule change in an interview with DT.
"The NRL flagged earlier in the year that this might be something they would trial in games that won't have an impact on the finals series," he remarked.
