Mundine Invests in AI Sports Technology

From the ring to robots: Anthony Mundine's AI gamble on the future of NRL analysis
Former NRL star and boxer Anthony Mundine is placing his bets on a revolutionary venture in sports tech, making an investment in an artificial intelligence robotics firm set to transform rugby league analysis and coaching.
In collaboration with Australian AI tech company Prenten AI, Mundine has introduced "K9" - a robotic marvel equipped with four legs and an estimated value of $150,000, crafted to harvest detailed performance data and provide instant insights for elite sports.
Just two weeks ago, Mundine and his MGM co-founder Daher took delivery of their K9 robot from the United States, with plans to connect with coaches across the NRL, AFL, cricket, and soccer to investigate how this technology can fit into training and match preparations.
Through Mundine's Indigenous-owned company MGM and his business partner Gosh Daher, they have started engaging with NRL teams such as the Brisbane Broncos, St. George Illawarra Dragons, and Canterbury Bulldogs to propose what they see as a groundbreaking shift in AI-assisted coaching.
This innovative technology surpasses standard analysis methods. The K9 robots can sprint at speeds similar to Usain Bolt's 100-metre record, covering the distance in under 10 seconds and even executing backflips while carrying high-definition cameras that generate specialized 3D imagery of gameplay.
Additionally, the unit incorporates built-in GPS tracking and biometric monitoring systems, enabling coaches to monitor player fatigue, workload, and recovery progress in unprecedented detail.
Mundine highlights that this initiative arises from his extensive experience in high-level decision-making during games.
"I've spent my whole life reading opponents, reading teammates and reading the game in real time," Mundine stated in an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald.
"We've spent more than a year working on how this technology can capture those moments and give coaches information they've never had before."
