Morea Morea scored 29 tries in 19 appearances for London Broncos, despite missing the latter part of the season with a serious hamstring injury.
He hopes his World Cup performances will put him in contention to become the PNG Chiefs' first homegrown Papua New Guinean player, particularly with the club yet to sign a fullback.
"I want to have a good World Cup, that's one of the reasons I wanted to play was to get myself in contention to be the No.1 for the Chiefs," Morea, 25, told AAP.
The Chiefs have been linked with Gold Coast fullback AJ Brimson and are also nearing a deal for Cooper Bai, son of Kumuls great Marcus, who travelled to Port Moresby for talks.
The NRL's 19th franchise will begin in 2028 and has signed seven players, including Jarome Luai, Brian To'o, Alex Johnston and Joey Manu.
Morea, utility Finley Glare and five-eighth Gairo Voro are homegrown PNG players signed on development deals for 2028.
All three play for the Broncos in England's second division, where Kumuls coach Jason Demetriou is in charge and Darren Lockyer is a co-owner.
After impressing in PNG's 42-18 win over Lebanon, Morea will face Samoa on Saturday, with a home victory putting the Kumuls close to their first World Cup semi-final.
"I think a lot of people have written us off but we don't worry about Samoa, we worry about the side and what we can do," Morea said.
He said the match was sold out and that PNG had players capable of winning it.
