Gold Coast Titans' Brimson release standoff

Raiders shine on the Gold Coast as they defeat Cowboys

The PNG Chiefs have reportedly offered AJ Brimson a tax-free, three-year deal worth about $750,000 annually.

His Gold Coast Titans contract is understood to pay about $900,000 a year, but the tax advantage could leave him with up to $1 million more in net earnings over the Chiefs deal.

The 28-year-old remains in talks with both clubs, which have yet to agree on early-release terms, according to the Courier Mail.

Brimson is contracted through 2030 after extending his deal in 2024. Joining PNG for its 2028 debut would mean leaving three seasons early.

The Titans allowed him to speak with rival clubs in August after a request from his management. He has spent his entire NRL career at Gold Coast.

If released, he could sign a short-term deal elsewhere before the Chiefs enter the competition.

Chiefs coach Willie Peters said, "It's with his management and the Titans now."
