Mitchell, who has already missed five weeks due to a back issue, was anticipated to return this weekend but sustained a new calf injury during Monday's training at Souths HQ.
This suggests he will likely end this season having played in less than half of the games.
Currently earning approximately $1.1 million annually, Mitchell's incredible performance in the first two months of the season had sparked discussions regarding a possible salary increase, with Code Sports' Brent Read estimating his next deal could be valued at $1.4 million.
