Luai's trip came just days after he was named a brand ambassador for Pepsi, coinciding with his upcoming role at the Chiefs in the NRL starting in 2028. This venture to Port Moresby is expected to begin a series of promotional initiatives with local brands as Luai continues to earn a substantial salary with the Tigers.
Marshall defended Luai's personal choices during his time off, stating, "From my opinion, it's his time off. What he chooses to do in his time off, that's up to him." He emphasized that criticisms regarding the optics of Luai's involvement with PNG were "irrelevant to me."
As Luai prepares to join Parramatta on a one-year agreement before commencing his pre-season with the Chiefs, Marshall is optimistic about Luai's potential transformation in the public perception. He remarked, "But he's about to walk into a country in about 12 months' time where he's about to be the hero, so it's going to change for him."
