When asked about calling Luai 'polarising', particularly amid his ongoing media presence, Marshall acknowledged that "externally it probably looks like it." However, he emphasized that those who have collaborated with Luai see a different version of him.
Marshall stated, "What you actually see versus what you get are very different," while reflecting on the unique nature of the NRL that attracts fans to its complex characters. He remarked, "There's villains and there's heroes, and for some reason Jarome always gets painted as the villain," predicting that this narrative may shift when Luai represents Papua New Guinea in 2028, where he anticipates being viewed as a "hero."
Discussing Luai's recent trip to Port Moresby after a match loss to the Cowboys, Marshall noted it was Luai's personal choice on how to spend his time off. When queried about whether Luai should have postponed the visit as the team captain, Marshall skillfully deflected the question while making his position clear.
Marshall asserted, "That's a question you can ask him," when addressing Luai's decision to leave his teammates post-match. He later revealed his unawareness of the trip prior, adding, "No… but it's irrelevant whether I knew or not." He finally offered a blunt reflection on Luai's impending departure: "In one week's time he's not going to be here anymore and we're not going to have to worry about any of those things."
