Maguire Emphasizes Player Accountability, Not Injuries

NRL 2026: Michael Maguire press conference, Sea Eagles defeat Broncos, what did he say, no excuses for loss, match report, rugby league news

Michael Maguire stands firm on the notion that the Broncos' disappointing loss to Manly cannot be attributed solely to their injury woes, insisting that his players simply "missed the mark" on Saturday night.

This season, only the Eels have faced a comparable number of injuries as the Broncos.

Despite the absence of key players such as Payne Haas, Adam Reynolds, Deine Mariner, and Kotoni Staggs due to suspension, Maguire pointed fingers at the players who were available for the match.

In the contest against the Sea Eagles, Brisbane made a staggering 18 errors, with 15 of them occurring in the second half.

"The boys unfortunately, didn't give themselves an opportunity with the lack of possession that we had and then obviously off the back of errors you put fatigue into yourself and then you can't give yourselves a chance. So, that was the disappointing part," Maguire expressed.

He continued, "Silly fundamental errors cost us … it was disappointing for us."
