Darren Lockyer's recent comments have reignited speculation about a potential coaching change at the Brisbane Broncos after the team's lackluster start to the 2025 season.
As reported by zerotackle.com, head coach Michael Maguire has struggled, achieving only five wins out of 12 matches.
Despite veteran journalist Paul Crawley labeling Maguire the "safest coach in the NRL" on NRL 360, Lockyer's remarks suggest increasing pressure on the coach.
During an appearance on Wide World of Sports' QLDER, Lockyer expressed disappointment regarding the team's performance: "If we don't make the top eight, given what we thought at the start of the year and the early signs, then that would be a disappointment." This assertion indicates that, should the Broncos fail to reach the finals, Maguire could be in jeopardy.
However, Lockyer, a Broncos legend and director, also indicated that there is still potential for a turnaround in the season, pointing to glimpses of brilliance as evidence that improvement is possible.
