'Gutsy call, but the right one': Selwyn Cobbo Origin 2 axing truth unveiled
Queensland selector Darren Lockyer has spilled the beans on why Selwyn Cobbo got the chop for Game 2 following Billy Slater's shock selection.
According to reports from news.com.au, Queensland legend and selector Darren Lockyer has disclosed that Selwyn Cobbo came clean to Maroons coach Billy Slater about not being in the right physical or mental state for Origin.
Cobbo's inclusion was initially seen as a stroke of genius amidst speculation over why Slater would opt for an extra back on the bench leading up to Origin 1.
However, the gamble paid off when Reece Walsh was forced out of the game just seven minutes in due to Joseph Sua'ali'i's reckless high tackle, resulting in the Blues debutant being sent off.
Despite facing scrutiny over Cobbo's performance in the first match, Slater faced further questioning after unveiling his lineup for Game 2, which notably excluded the Broncos back in favor of four forwards on the bench.
Nonetheless, Lockyer revealed to The Courier Mail that it was Cobbo himself who essentially ruled himself out of contention.
