'Inconsistency and hypocrisy': Confusion ensues as NSW star dodges sin bin for ugly tackle
Blues bruiser Liam Martin managed to escape a stint in the sin bin for a woeful tackle that left a rugby league legend scratching his head in disbelief.
In the 36th minute of the game, Martin was hit with a penalty for a nasty tackle on Maroons tough guy Reuben Cotter, which saw him hoisted beyond the horizontal.
The controversial incident had the eighth Immortal Andrew Johns convinced that Martin would be shown the door by referee Ashley Klein.
"If they're fair dinkum, this will earn Liam Martin a spell in the bin," Johns remarked on Channel 9.
Drawing parallels to a similar incident involving Warriors speedster Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, who was sin binned for a lifting tackle on Titans star Jayden Campbell in Round 16, Johns couldn't fathom how Martin got off scot-free.
