St Helens captain, James Knowles, has announced that he will be leaving the club to join the NRL at the end of the 2025 season.

"I'll forever be grateful to the club for everything they've given me and my family," Knowles said.

"My decision to move on is not something I took lightly.

When the opportunity came up, I did not wish to regret anything when the time comes to retire.

"I didn't want any ifs, buts, or maybes in my mind, and it's an opportunity for my family to experience a different way of life too.

"However, it is really hard because I believe in this group we have at Saints and that this year, and in the years ahead, we are going to continue competing for trophies," Knowles added.

Knowles' departure will be a loss for St Helens, but his decision to pursue a new challenge in the NRL shows his determination to push himself to the next level.

It will be a bittersweet moment for fans, who have watched Knowles grow into a leader on and off the field.

As Knowles prepares to make the move Down Under, he leaves behind a legacy at St Helens that will not be forgotten.

The club will no doubt be looking to fill the void left by the departing captain with a player who can step up and continue the team's winning ways.
