In a disappointing result for the Canberra Raiders, they were defeated 20-12 by the Newcastle Knights at GIO Stadium, Canberra.

Despite a strong effort from Bartlett, who scored twice, the Raiders were unable to secure a victory against the reigning premiers.

The Raiders held the lead for the majority of the first half, but the Knights came back in the second half, scoring three tries to secure the win.

The Raiders started the game strongly, with an impressive display of ball movement that resulted in a goal line drop out.

However, the Knights quickly responded, with Southwell kicking a 40/30 to give them their first attacking opportunity.

Nicholls showcased his composure when faced with a tricky grubber into the Raiders' in-goal area, dealing with it comfortably.
