Luke Keary, a premiership-winner with both the Roosters and South Sydney Rabbitohs, is reportedly set to retire at the end of the 2025 season, cutting short his planned two-year stint in the English Super League.
Keary, who won a premiership with the Rabbitohs in 2014, controversially joined the Roosters where he secured two additional titles.
Last year, he decided to sign a two-year deal with the Catalans Dragons in France, reversing his earlier retirement plans.
However, at 33, it appears that he may not be inclined to play another season.
Reports indicate that Keary plans to retire after the current Super League season, raising questions about his future in the sport.
Keary has been vocal about the standards in the Super League, leading to a fine from the governing body.
He seems to feel the toll on his body is enough, with UK reports suggesting he will retire a year early.
NRL commentator Andrew Voss speculated whether an NRL team might pursue Keary for a one-year deal in 2026.
Reporter Michael Carayannis added that Keary is content in France and likely won't seek a return to Australia.
"I don't think he has got the motivation.
That is my understanding of it all," Carayannis said.
He believes Keary's family is enjoying life in France, implying that if Keary had the desire to continue playing, he would fulfill the second year of his contract.
The Catalans Dragons are facing a challenging season, currently sitting ninth on the Super League ladder, with only six wins from 16 games and a significant struggle to make the finals.
