Warrington Wolves winger Josh Lynch has been suspended for 16 months after failing a drug test in December 2023.

The 21-year-old tested positive for the prohibited substance ibutamoren, a growth hormone.

Lynch was provisionally suspended by UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) in February 2024 and will be eligible to return to play in June, with his ban including time already served on the sidelines.

A statement from UKAD read: "Rugby league player Joshua Lynch has been banned from all World Anti-Doping Code-compliant sport for a period of 16 months following Anti-Doping Rule Violations (ADRVs) for the presence and use of a prohibited substance." The substance ibutamoren is not approved for human use and is banned in sport at all times.

Lynch's failed test occurred during a training session with Warrington Wolves.

UKAD conducted the test on December 14, 2023, leading to the adverse analytical finding.

As a result of the ban, Lynch will not be able to participate in any World Anti-Doping Code-compliant sports for the duration of his suspension.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of abiding by anti-doping regulations in sports.

Athletes are expected to adhere to strict guidelines regarding the use of prohibited substances to maintain fairness and integrity in competition.

Lynch's case highlights the consequences of failing to comply with anti-doping rules and the potential impact it can have on an athlete's career.
