Incoming Parramatta Eels coach Jason Ryles is set to throw a curveball at the club by making some big changes, with captain Clint Gutherson potentially feeling the heat.

Ryles, who recently inked a four-year deal with the struggling club, is reportedly sending caretaker Trent Barrett packing and eyeing up a rising star for the coveted No.1 spot.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Ryles is not wasting any time in implementing his vision for the team, as he plans to bring in a new crew of assistant coaches to shake things up.

This means Barrett's time at the club is coming to an end, despite being in the running to take over as head coach after Brad Arthur's departure.

Barrett, who filled in as interim coach after Arthur's abrupt exit, was once a strong contender for the permanent role.

However, Ryles, a former assistant at powerhouse clubs like the Storm and Roosters, has opted to go in a different direction, leaving Barrett on the sidelines.

It seems Ryles is keen to stamp his authority on the team right from the get-go, bringing in his own coaching staff and leaving behind any ties to his former clubs.

With Ryles at the helm, the Eels are gearing up for a new era, as they look to turn their fortunes around and climb up the ladder.

It's a bold move by the incoming coach, but one that could potentially propel the Eels to greater heights in the tough world of Rugby League.

Only time will tell if Ryles' shake-up will pay off, but one thing's for sure - the Eels are in for a wild ride under their new leader.
