Mark Russell is set to join the Parramatta Eels as their assistant coach for the 2027 season, transitioning from the Melbourne Storm.
He is well-regarded for his contributions to player development, particularly through the "Road to AAMI Park" initiative aimed at nurturing local talent in Victoria.
Russell led the Storm's Jersey Flegg team to their first title in 2025, successfully mentoring players who advanced to the NRL, including Cooper Clarke and Siulagi Tuimalatu-Brown.
In addition to his title win, he served as the inaugural head coach for the Storm's NSW Cup team in 2026, showcasing his deep commitment to developing players.
His anticipated responsibility with the Eels includes overseeing the defensive systems, a role for which he has earned a strong reputation due to his meticulous approach.
Eels head coach Jason Ryles expressed enthusiasm about Russell's addition, emphasizing his extensive defensive coaching experience and ability to foster player development.
