Injuries Sideline Broncos Players for Origin II

Patrick Carrigan prepares to pass the ball for the Broncos during a 2026 NRL match.

The Queensland Maroons face a significant setback ahead of State of Origin II, as injuries have sidelined both Pat Carrigan and Gehamat Shibasaki.

Following Brisbane's 30-26 defeat against St George Illawarra at Lang Park on Sunday, Carrigan was seen leaving the Broncos' locker room in a moon boot.

Subsequent imaging confirmed a syndesmosis injury, which will keep him out of the game for an estimated three to four weeks.

Meanwhile, Shibasaki has been assessed with a grade two MCL injury, meaning he will be unavailable for five to six weeks.

Although he was listed on the Maroons' interchange bench, he did not step onto the field during the 22-20 loss to NSW in Origin I last Wednesday.

With this injury, Shibasaki will miss the remainder of the Origin series.

Carrigan had been a mainstay for the Maroons, participating in 13 consecutive Origin matches since his debut in 2022.

During the match against the Dragons, he played for the first 32 minutes before being substituted.

In the early part of the second half, he was spotted on an exercise bike on the sideline, managed to return to play, but was only able to last another 10 minutes.
