The Dragons have re-signed seven young forwards and recruited six elite players for 2027 as they reshape a squad that finished with the wooden spoon.
Valentine Holmes says he hopes to play beyond his contract, which runs through 2027, though his place in the team next season remains uncertain.
He could move to the wing if Daniel Atkinson and Moses Suli are selected as the first-choice centres.
"I know I am contracted for next year but this year probably wasn't the best personally and as a club," he told AAP.
"I feel like your actions speak for you. I am all about now. I want to be playing good footy to earn my contract, not just because I played a certain amount of games.
"I want to prove I am worthy to play in the NRL."
Holmes had a difficult season in the centres, although his form improved late in the year. The Cook Islands representative will be almost 33 when the 2028 season begins.
Under coach Dean Young and recruitment boss Daniel Anderson, Holmes, Clint Gutherson, Kyle Flanagan and Suli have appeared unlikely to remain beyond 2027.
The Dragons have been linked with Jack Bostock for 2028 and may also seek other outside backs and a reserve hooker.
