Jamie Humphreys, the rookie Rabbitohs halfback, is part of a rare group of third-generation players in the NRL, following in the footsteps of his father Stephen and grandfather Kevin.
He recently made headlines by kicking a winning field goal in just his third NRL appearance, helping South Sydney secure a 25-24 victory over St George Illawarra.
Stephen Humphreys, Jamie's father, had a solid career as a player with 42 first-grade matches for Balmain as a fullback or winger.
Kevin, Jamie's grandfather, also had a successful rugby league career with 43 top-grade appearances for Balmain at prop.
Stephen later transitioned to an executive role, serving as CEO for the Wests Tigers from 2009 to 2013 and later moving to Manly as chief executive from 2019 to 2022.
Despite the family legacy in rugby league, Jamie is determined to forge his own path and make a name for himself in the sport.
He hopes that his success will inspire other family members to follow in his footsteps and join him in the NRL.
Reflecting on his achievements, Jamie said, "Grandad would be proud.
Hopefully, I keep serving up performances he'll be proud of."
Jamie's journey as a third-generation NRL player is a testament to his talent and determination to succeed in the sport.
By making significant contributions to his team early in his career, Jamie is proving that he has the skills and potential to continue the family legacy of success in rugby league.
As he continues to impress on the field, Jamie remains focused on making his mark in the NRL and inspiring future generations of Humphreys to pursue their dreams in the sport.
