The Melbourne Storm has offered an update on Jahrome Hughes following concerns about an injury sustained during the team's recent defeat to the South Sydney Rabbitohs on Saturday.
Throughout the contest, Hughes appeared to struggle with a wrist issue, notably showing signs of discomfort and wincing in pain at various points.
The star halfback exited the field during the second half, grappling with wrist soreness and signs of concussion.
Initial evaluations from the club indicate no serious injury to his wrist, with further assessments planned for the upcoming week.
On Saturday, Hughes failed his Head Injury Assessment (HIA) and will enter the mandatory 11-day stand-down period.
This means the Kiwi international will be absent from the critical matchup with the Dolphins in Brisbane on Friday.
The Storm finds itself in a tough position, having lost six consecutive matches, marking their worst losing streak in history, surpassing a record set in 2002.
Hughes' absence represents a significant setback, with standout utility Tyran Wishart anticipated to step in as the primary playmaker for the upcoming clash against the Dolphins.
In the post-match press conference, Storm coach Craig Bellamy described their performance against the Rabbitohs as "embarrassing."
