The future of Hudson Young is currently a focal point for fans of the Canberra Raiders, as his contract discussions heat up.
Young, who has a deal that runs until the end of 2027, is free to negotiate with other clubs starting November 1. However, he has received special permission to discuss potential options with the Papua New Guinea Chiefs ahead of this date.
Negotiations between the two clubs are fiercely competitive. Reports indicate that the Raiders have offered Young a three-year extension valued at $1.1 million per year, while the Chiefs have proposed $900,000 annually.
Given that the Chiefs' offer is tax-free, this has raised concerns within the NRL. Officials believe that the financial terms offered may not reflect the market value of Young, leading to a temporary hold on their proposal.
Despite these developments, Raiders CEO Don Furner remains optimistic. He expressed a "quietly confident" outlook that an agreement can be reached to secure Young's future with Canberra.
