New Zealand's Waaka breaks Samoa resistance

Kiwi Ferns storm into World Cup final

New Zealand will face the winner of Sunday's Jillaroos-Fiji Bulikula semi-final in the World Cup final on November 15.

The Kiwi Ferns booked their place with a 32-0 semi-final victory over Samoa in Newcastle, their most connected performance of the campaign.

Samoa stayed in contention for much of the match, but struggled to turn possession and repeat sets into points against New Zealand's defence.

Mackenzie Wiki opened the scoring in the second minute, diving over in the corner despite questions about the grounding.

New Zealand made handling errors under Samoa's physical pressure, but Raecene McGregor's short chip bounced invitingly for Stacey Waaka to score and make it 8-0 at half-time.

Blustery conditions arrived during the first half, shaking the goalposts and making it difficult for Chantay Kiria-Ratu to keep the ball on the tee.

McGregor and Waaka combined again after the break, with the halfback stepping inside a defender and kicking across the field for Waaka to score in the 45th minute.

Kiria-Ratu's conversion extended the lead to 14-0.

After Samoa's attack faltered with forward passes, Mele Hufanga and Kaiya Atai scored in successive sets by the 60th minute.

Waaka completed her hat-trick from Annessa Biddle's flick pass, then McGregor scored to complete the 32-0 result.
