Ponga to undergo surgery after suffering broken arm in Kiwis’ World Cup opener

New Zealand beat Australia 34-20 in the 2008 World Cup final, one of the tournament's major upsets.

The teams will meet again in the final in Brisbane, after Australia defeated Samoa 44-12 in Sunday's semi-final before 41,259 fans at Allianz Stadium.

The decider will renew their rivalry after their Round 1 clash in Sydney and follow previous finals between them in 2013, 2008 and 2000.

Australia led 26-2 at half-time, with Tom Dearden and Cameron Munster directing play and Reece Walsh scoring a hat-trick.

The victory was Australia's sixth Test win over Samoa in six meetings.

Samoa opened the scoring with Stephen Crichton's fifth-minute penalty, but Dearden, Munster and Tom Trbojevic helped Australia build a commanding lead.

Bradman Best scored his first Test try before half-time, while Samoa lost Spencer Leniu to the sin bin for dissent.

Crichton and Izack Tago scored after the break, but Walsh and Jack Bostock added tries as Australia extended its advantage.

Australia and New Zealand will also contest the women's World Cup final next Sunday.
